I am very excited to announce that Murphy's Magic Supplies will be distributing Tivoliland #2 DVD by Arthur Tivoli.  It ships to us next week so it should be here soon.  I have talked about Arthur and Tivoliland #1 prior, which is a superb DVD.  I believe it was largely overlooked due to the cover which was a little "cartoonish." The material however is top notch.  In his new DVD, Arthur Tivoli presents the routines he actually performs in restaurants: 3 sets, 8 minutes each, with cards,  coins ropes, diamonds, rings, spongeballs, etc. I have been fortunate enough to see much of the material and it is great!  Included is Arthur's Card to Box which is one of the best versions out there.  Highly recommended when it comes in.

R. Paul Wilson’s “Fan2C” is to cards what Extreme Burn is to bills. This is fabulous and in my opinion one of the must have items of the year. Quite some time ago my friend Paul Wilson showed me his effect Zapped. It looked like a camera trick as a hand of five random cards instantly and visibly changed to a royal flush which he immediately handed to me. On this new DVD Paul teaches several new handlings that are just stunning. The DVD is produced by Dan and Dave Buck so you know the production is stupendous. Also included is a 40 page downloadable booklet detailing various handlings of “Fan2C”. This is REALLY good. If you do card magic you HAVE to have this. If you don’t do card magic you have to have this. It has been an exciting year with some amazing releases. “Fan2C” is, without a doubt, in this category and something I will be using. HIGHLY recommend!

One superb DVD from the past is Money by Jay Noblezada.   As magicians, we don't always carry a deck of cards, coins, spongeballs, etc. but we typically always DO have our wallet and cash.  This DVD is filled with great effects with dollar bills.   There are three effects on this DVD that are awesome and if you have these 3 effects in your wallet you will always have a complete act with you.  These are 3 effects you will USE and carry with you forever. 

First is Jay's “5 and 1 Transpo”.  There is nothing revolutionary here but some nice handling and ideas that make this effect with 2 bills much like sponge balls as far as reactions.  “$2 Window” is the absolute best handling I have ever seen of turning 2 $1 bills into a single $2 bill then back.  It is visual, self contained, easy to do, and very strong.  It gets gasps. Lastly Joshua Jay (guest star on the DVD)  teaches his “Cornered.” Typically I am not a fan of using a torn corner to identify a card, bill, etc.  but in this version you borrow a bill, have the spectator tear off and keep/hold the corner (yes you read that right), make the bill cleanly vanish (great ideas here) and appear anywhere you want - in a spectator's wallet, in something across the room etc.   It looks like real magic and the handling is brilliant. 

Money by Jay Noblezada is one of the best money magic DVDs on the market.  It is filled with other bill effects but you can just focus on the 3 items mentioned and you will get many many times the value of this DVD.  Highly recommended.

Sometime we get so many new products that a few great ones may pass you by, if you blinked!  I have found a few recent products you need to check out.

If you are a beginner magician and looking for some great easy to do effects and routines then I would suggest you start with these from Penguin Magic. You more advanced workers out there may learn a few things too.

Cheek to Cheek (With Red deck) by Oz Pearlman – DVD  Cheek to Cheek decks have been around for a while but Oz Pearlman does a great job putting this custom deck to work.  He shows you some great routines that are very powerful but easy to do.  The instructions are easy to follow.  Comes with a Cheek to Cheek deck in red or blue. 

 

 Greatest Beginner Magic DVD Ever (We Think So!) by Oz Pearlman – DVD  Ok beginners want to know how to make magic happen with everyday objects? Something you can that is easy but stunning to your spectators?  You should have this DVD! It’s Oz again and he shows you some great classic effects and teaches you how to perform them with easy to follow instructions.  Cards, matches, coins, shoelaces, paper clips, rubber bands and more!

 

Stealth Pen (DVD and Props) by Oz Pearlman – DVD  Have you seen where a Magician pushes a pen into a dollar bill and then rips it out without leaving a tear or mark?  I think it is one of the best visual effects around.  This trick has been on the market for quite some time, you may even have this already.  Here is what makes this different.  You get a “special pen” made from an ordinary looking pen that people have seen before, not a fancy looking pen that is suspicious looking.   So you do the pen into dollar trick and freak everyone out. Then before they know it the dollar disappears and ends up inside the pen! Yes, inside the pen. I really liked this one! This is a very versatile gimmick and routine.  You get some parts to make the gimmicks.  There several routines included but you will be able to use it many ways.  You need to add this to your card routines.

Another set of DVDs that are greatly overlooked but of tremendous value are the Matthew Dowden DVDs.  Matthew initially released a wonderful 2 Volume set titled "Party Animal" filled with practical, strong magic that was well produced by Alakazam.  The two biggest highlights to me are Walk Around Waltz, which is one of the best walk arounds that needs no table and gets to the punch versions of Anniversary Waltz out there.  Also X Marks The Spot is a great version of a classic.  This DVD set is just loaded with superb usable strong material. 

Matthew also released 2 separate DVDs produced by Russ Stevens of  RSVP titled "1 Deck, 14 Tricks, 24 Hours".  I have to be honest... when these initially came out I overlooked them mistakenly assuming that the easy to do card magic would not be that strong.  I was wrong!  There was some talk about the Ultimate Phone Prediction on Volume 1 so I decided to check it out.  I could not believe how strong, yet incredibly easy, the effects were.  If you want to get a taste just buy Volume 1 and watch it.  You'll be hooked.  I fooled some well versed magicians with Compatibility Test and Listen Ear.  The effects in these 2 DVDs are PERFECT for someone wanting to learn some great card magic but not having a  lot of technical ability.  The effects are all VERY easy.  But even for the well versed magician there are some superb pieces to add to their repertoires.  Highly recommended.

So many new DVDs, Tricks, and Books are released in magic it is sometimes easy to miss a stand out item.  One such DVD is “Decks, Lies, and Videotape” by Brent Braun.  The production is just adequate but the magic and techniques taught are SUPERB.  Highlights are “The Bluff Swivel Cut” which is the best way I have ever seen to start an Ambitious Card routine.  It looks SO good.  It is worth the price of the DVD and then some.  Tilt Throw Off is a great addition to the classic Tilt move that makes it so much more deceptive.  Kick Back Transpo is a visual 2 card transposition that happens twice.  The first phase seems to happen with no cover.  There is a ball through glass table/counter top that just looks incredible and the method is very intriguing. 

This is the perfect demo item if you own a brick and mortar shop. If someone sees this effect they will instantly buy this DVD.  There are several other items including Torched and Restored which is Brent's previously released stand alone torn and restored card effect that was very popular and a great seller.  I strongly recommend taking a look at “Decks, Lies, and Videotape” DVD.

Reel Magic Episode 10 (Mike Caveney)- DVD  This months issue is fantastic and worth more then $10 retail.  The interview with Caveney and the tour of the Egyptian Hall is priceless.  David Regal reviews and recommends these great tricks  Intuition (With Cards and DVD) by Hondo, Future Zone (Wallet, DVD) by Mark Mason, Perfect (With DVD) by Mark Mason.  These are similar effects where a prediction matches a dealt card but with different methods.  And, don’t forget that you get 3 free tricks with every issue!  Get Reel Magic now!

How to Create Kid's Magic And Triple Your Income by John Breeds – Book  Do you perform for children or what to perform for children?  If you answered yes, then you need to have this book.  There is so much in here that you will need to know and if you think you know it all get this book anyway.  I have a copy on my desk I am buying for myself. 

 

Catch by Ben Seidman – DVD  Show your hands empty, spring cards into the air, catch the selected card!  Yep, it is that good!  You get the supplies you need to make the gimmick so you will have a little work to do but it will be worth doing.  The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. 

 

Approaching Magic by David Regal – Book  We are so lucky to be able to offer this book, I have had a lot of customers ask if we are getting it.  Now it is here.  Big book, lots of magic and theories on Magic.  Must have for anyone that is serious about learning magic.
